Bipartisan Letter to Increase OAA Funding by 12 Percent Signed by 27 Senators

April 4, 2014

This week and last, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) circulated a “Dear Colleague” letter supporting at least a 12 percent increase from FY 2014 levels for programs authorized under the Older Americans Act. Thanks to the advocacy efforts of Aging Network stakeholders, including n4a members, 27 Senators signed on in support of increased funding levels for the social and nutrition services programs for seniors.

This included three more lawmakers than signed on to last year’s letter. Senator Sanders noted that while an increase of 12 percent–or roughly $225 million–would be a step in the right direction toward keeping up with the growing demand for these services, there is still work to be done to sufficiently fund AAA and Title VI programs.
