USAging Disaster Relief Fund

Volunteers collect supplies for donations.

When natural disasters occur, older adults are often the most affected. And while recovery begins immediately for many, older adults tend to take the longest time to recover. The USAging Disaster Relief Fund provides Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) and Title VI Native American Aging Programs with vital support for older adults in their communities as they recover from hurricanes, floods, wildfires and other natural disasters.

Contributions to the USAging Disaster Relief Fund help local AAAs and Title VI programs continue outreach and assistance to older adults in their communities.

How USAging Disaster Relief Funds Are Used
One hundred percent of donations to the USAging Disaster Relief Fund go directly to Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) and Title VI Native American Aging Programs in affected areas. These organizations then use the funds to directly assist older adults in their communities.

AAAs and Title VI programs will purchase food, water, essential household goods, gift cards and clothing to help older adults as they recover from disasters. Often, funds are used to provide temporary housing; cover hotel stays; repair damaged homes; replace medical devices, beds and other critical items; conduct safety checks; offer transportation; and purchase essential supplies like medications and health products.

Our anecdotal evidence, obtained through voluntary reports from AAAs who have received Disaster Relief funds in the past, show that many of victims of natural disasters in these areas are over the age of 50 and do not have insurance, so this assistance is crucial to their recovery.
