Short Shutdown Despite Funding Deal Likely as Vote on Funding Package Likely to Fail in Senate

The White House and Senate Democrats have struck a deal to pass a minibus funding package, allowing for five of six appropriations bills, including Labor/HHS, to move forward. The deal leaves the remaining bill that funds the Department of Homeland Security on the table to continue negotiations on Democratic reforms in response to last weekend's fatal event in Minneapolis.

The Senate is voting on this deal today, and should it pass, it will be up to the House to swiftly approve the new deal upon their return to DC next week. However, despite this deal, a brief shutdown is imminent with less than 12 hours until the funding deadline since the House cannot approve the measure before the deadline. USAging will continue to keep members updated over the next few days on new developments. For more details, please read our Legislative Update from earlier this week.
