Urgent Advocacy Needed: Contact Your Senators to Stop Cuts to Critical OAA Programs!

Last week, the House Appropriations Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) Subcommittee released the FY 2025 appropriations report on their proposed spending bill, which we covered in full detail in a Legislative Update earlier this week. Despite the bill's proposal to cut funding for ACL (1-percent cut overall), USAging's top OAA priorities received increases (Title III B, Title III E and Title VI)! However, the House bill also proposes significant cuts to Title III C1 and C2 nutrition programs and would eliminate Title V, the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) and Adult Protective Services, which would cause serious harm to the older adults served by the Aging Network and others.

The next step in the appropriations process is for the Senate to develop their own proposed spending bill. USAging has already sent a letter outlining our priorities for the FY 2025 appropriations bill. We expect the Senate to have their spending bill before the end of this month, but our letter alone is not enough. We need you to tell your Senators to stop these cuts! Keep a lookout for our Advocacy Alert next week for all the information you need to be a strong advocate.

Want a head start? Head to USAging's FY 2025 Appropriations campaign page and use the Senate AAA and Title VI template letters to engage your Senators today!
