Kathie Garbe

Kathie Garbe joined USAging in May 2021 as a Senior Program Manager of the Aging and Disability Business Institute, responsible for leading several projects, including the AAA Core Competency Certification.

Kathie came to USAging from the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA), where she served as the Chief of Research and Education, creating certificate courses, webinars, summits and educational programs for staff in the senior living industry. She also served on the ICAA Scientific Advisory Board and wrote white papers, articles and summaries of forums and think tank meetings. Before joining ICAA, Kathie spent more than 30 years as a Health Promotion and Wellness professor, building undergraduate wellness curricula, conducting community-based research in healthy aging, and creating and directing high-impact and experiential intergenerational, award-winning wellness programs.

Kathie earned a Doctorate from Texas Woman’s University in Health Studies, a Master of Science degree from Illinois State University in Health Education, and two Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in Health Education and Physical Education. Throughout her professional career, Kathie focused on older adult wellness programming and research, concentrating on enhancing quality of life through education, health promotion, disease management and prevention.
