Agency on Aging Director
The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) in the Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking an experienced professional to manage its Area Agency on Aging (AAA) program for the County. This position will oversee all Older Americans Act funded programs, and execute the annual Area Plan state contract with the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS). In addition, this position oversees the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC), the intake unit for all AAA programs that assesses client needs and links them to other services.
About the Program:
The AAA is responsible for implementation and evaluation of Older Americans Act programs in support of ADSD. AAA program oversight includes: Nutrition (Home-delivered, Congregate), Transportation, In-home services (Community Living Program), Legal Services, Money Management, Long-term Care Ombudsman, Caregiver Supports, VICAP Medicare Counseling and the Aging and Disability Resource Center (“ADRC”). The ADRC serves as the No Wrong Door entry point for clients of the Community Supports and Coordination Bureau (“CSCB”) within the division. In addition to assessing client needs and linking them to other services, staff in this unit serve as Options Counselors and Service Coordinators providing direct clinical services, crisis intervention and stabilization, and short-term case management.

Requirements |
Minimum: A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Gerontology, Public Administration or a closely related field plus extensive experience managing a network of services and supports for specific populations, administering public programs or managing social work services. A Master's degree is preferred.
Substitution: A combination of education and required experience that demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the issues and services related to aging and older adult (60+) populations may substitute for the education requirements on a year for year basis. |
