In the last month, staff from n4a's Aging and Disability Business Institute have provided business acumen training to AAA staff in four New York cities (Albany, Buffalo, Plattsburgh and Syracuse). The trainings will help prepare New York's AAAs to play a leading role in the state's health care transformation—and represent an important step toward making New York an Age-Friendly state.
The trainings were the first in a series of regional meetings that are part of the Business Acumen Training Initiative, which is a two-year project funded by the New York State Office for the Aging through a grant to the Association on Aging in New York (Aging-NY). Aging-NY has contracted with the Business Institute in partnership with Williams Jaxon Consulting LLC and Clear View Strategies, LLC to provide this combination of virtual and in-person trainings.
The goals of the initiative are to provide New York AAAs with training on business acumen and foster the integration of health care with AAAs and other community-based organizations to address the social determinants of health and other long-term services and supports needs of older adults in New York. It can serve as a model for the nation for partnership between AAAs and a State Unit on Aging to support capacity-building for integrated care.
