$50 Million in Federal Funding Available for Tribal Organizations to Address the Opioid Crisis

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has made $50 million available for approximately 300 grants to address the opioid crisis in tribal communities by increasing access to culturally appropriate and evidence-based prevention, treatment, and recovery services. n4a encourages Title VI Native American aging programs and their community partners to apply for this funding by the August 24 deadline.

With this funding, tribes would develop strategic planning processes to implement adequate needs assessments, identify resource gaps and build prevention, treatment and/or community-based recovery support services.

In the application process, applicants must describe how they would expand access to treatment and recovery support services as well as how they would advance substance misuse/abuse prevention in coordination with other federally supported efforts. This funding is intended to supplement, not supplant, existing opioid prevention, treatment and/or recovery activities. Applicants also must describe how they would implement a chronic care or other innovative model that has been shown to improve retention in care.

The deadline for applications is Friday, August 24. More information about this funding opportunity is available online, including information about archived webinar recordings for interested applicants.
