Marketing Campaign Draws Acclaim for Colorado AAA

When the Boulder County Area Agency on Aging was exploring fresh ways to celebrate its 25th anniversary while also giving their agency a marketing boost, they took inspiration from the renowned Humans of New York campaign and developed their own version—Elders of Boulder County

According to Director Sherry Leach, “People love to look at faces and to hear a good story so we photographed 31 people—enough for each day in October—and asked them to share advice or a memory.”

“Aging is not easy—it comes too fast. Young people should realize the importance of planning and the importance of being kind to everyone. It is the kindness of other people that really inspires me most in my life,” said “Carol,” one of this week's profiles posted on the agency's Facebook page.

Photographs were taken of older adults representing a range of life experiences, from very active people who are still hiking mountains to those who have significant mobility challenges. Until this effort, social media wasn't a priority, but since the campaign kicked off a week ago, Facebook “likes” have increased by 200 percent. The agency has received a flurry of glowing comments from across the state and beyond and they are evaluating how they can further leverage interest in this campaign.
