After seven years serving as Assistant Secretary on Aging for the Obama Administration and four years as Administrator of the Administration for Community Living (ACL), Kathy Greenlee is leaving Washington, DC and returning to her home state of Kansas.
Yesterday, Administrator Greenlee announced her departure via a blog post, reflecting on the creation of ACL and thanking advocates for supporting the new agency that has brought together aspects of aging and disability work under the umbrella of community living.
n4a CEO Sandy Markwood saluted Greenlee's leadership, saying “Kathy has been a remarkable leader and we're lucky to have had her in DC for the past seven years. During her tenure she has worked tirelessly to promote and position the Aging Network for the future—through the development of business partnerships with health care, the collection and redesign of data and trends analysis, investments in national resource centers and her commitment to raising the national awareness of and supporting the prevention of elder abuse.”
“Within weeks of her Senate confirmation in 2009, Kathy joined us in Minneapolis for that summer's n4a Annual Conference and her keynotes have become a AAA favorite over the years. We are so pleased that her last public appearance will be at our Conference in San Diego at the end of July. It will be hard to say goodbye, but we wish her all the best and thank her for her years of service,” said Markwood.
Longtime Administration on Aging leader Edwin Walker will assume the roles of Acting Administrator, ACL, and Acting Asst. Secretary for Aging upon Greenlee's departure.
