Older Driver Safety Awareness Week

The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) has designated December 1-5 as Older Driver Safety Awareness Week to promote understanding and awareness of the importance of older adults mobility, transportation options, safe driving and ways to maintain activity in the community.

Throughout the first week of December, AOTA will highlight a different aspect of older driver safety each day along with the role of occupational therapists in both identifying and finding strategies to overcome driving challenges. The Older Driver Safety and Transition from Driving page on the NCST website includes a number of resources to assist local and state efforts to address this important issue.

n4a staff Virginia Dize and Eileen Miller participated in a podcast as part of the AOTA campaign to raise awareness around Older Driver Safety. They, along with AOTA staff, discuss tips for adjusting to changes in driving lifestyle, the occupational therapists role in driver safety, and resources for older drivers and their families, including the Eldercare Locator and the National Center on Senior Transportation.
