Join the Movement! Become a Dementia Friend.

Nearly six million people in the United States are living with Alzheimer's disease, the most common form of dementia. During National Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month Dementia Friendly America joins with others across the country in raising awareness of dementia—and ways we can all play a role in making our communities more friendly to those living with dementia.

Through the work of more than 35 national organizations, the n4a-administered Dementia Friendly America initiative is catalyzing a movement to more effectively support and serve individuals who are living with dementia and their family and friend care partners. DFA's lead organizations represent all sectors of community and are collectively leveraging their national reach to encourage their local affiliates, members and branches to convene, participate in and support dementia-friendly community efforts in communities around the country.

How can your AAA help?

In addition to supporting the development of dementia-friendly communities, Dementia Friendly America operates Dementia Friends USA, which is part of a global movement developed by the Alzheimer's Society in the United Kingdom. The goal of Dementia Friends is to help everyone in a community understand what dementia is, how it affects people and how everyone can make a difference for people touched by dementia. There are more than 87,000 Dementia Friends across the country!

Becoming a Dementia Friend is quick and easy. In fact, individuals can become a Dementia Friend online. Help us reach our goal of 100,000 Dementia Friends! From telling your agency's staff and partners about the Dementia Friends program to visiting someone who is living with dementia, every action counts. Check out dementiafriendsusa.org to learn how your organization can get involved. Better yet, make it a challenge to have everyone on your staff become a Dementia Friend!
