n4a and Aging Network Stakeholders Respond to House-Passed HEROES 2.0 Bill

This week, n4a joined partner organizations in sending a letter to Senate and House leaders and members of key committees in response to critical Aging Network priorities included in the latest round of coronavirus relief legislation, the House's HEROES 2.0, H.R. 925.

The letter was the third sent to Congress from n4a, ADvancing States, Meals on Wheels America and the National Association of Nutrition and Aging Services Programs appealing to Congress to provide funding for the Aging Network and urging both chambers of Congress to coalesce around another round of COVID-19 relief legislation. While the House passed the latest version of the HEROES Act last week, which included $1.175 billion for OAA and other key aging programs, broader bipartisan, bicameral negotiations continue to falter. Along with funding for OAA programs, the letter supports HEROES 2.0 provisions that increase the federal match percentage for state Medicaid and Medicaid HCBS activities; provide additional emergency funding for state and local governments, SNAP benefits and the PPP small-business loan program; and reauthorize the Elder Justice Act for one year.

Although Congress and the Administration may ultimately agree on a limited set of priorities, at this point, chances are bleak for another comprehensive COVID-19 response bill to become law before the election.
