A partnership of n4a, the National Association of Nutrition and Aging Services Programs (NANASP) and Tivity Health to provide nutritious meal options to older adults during the COVID-19 crisis has exceeded its four-month goal of providing 100,000 meals after it provided 167,000 meals for older adults.
Access to nutrition is a key element to ensuring that older adults can continue to live in their homes and communities as they wish and with good health. Through this partnership, older adults who had been unable to secure food as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic are now able to eat healthy meals at home without concern of how they might find their next meal.
The partnership has helped n4a and NANASP members meet the increasing demand for healthy, frozen and shelf-stable meals for seniors during the pandemic.
Tivity Health offers a wide range of meal options including Nutrisystem, South Beach Diet and Wisely Well packages that n4a members can offer to older adults who need access to nutritious meal options, especially during the COVID crisis. An n4a survey of its members found that 93 percent of Area Agencies on Aging had served increasing numbers of clients since the COVID-19 pandemic began—and that the most requested services related to COVID-19 were an immediate and ongoing need for nutritious food.
“Tivity Health is proud to support the nation's older adults through our partnership with n4a and NANASP,” said Robert J. Greczyn, Jr., Interim Chief Executive Officer of Tivity Health. “Tivity Health's infrastructure, ability to scale and supply enables us to support older adults who may not have been able to access food when they need it most.”
“Our members have told us that one of their largest areas of concern during the pandemic is for older adults who are not able to access meals,” said n4a CEO Sandy Markwood. “At this critical time, we are glad to have a partner in Tivity Health that can help ensure that critical needs of older adults are met.”
“The meals provided through this partnership have enabled our members and their partners to continue providing older adults in their communities with vital nutrition in the form of healthy meals,” said Bob Blancato, Executive Director of NANASP. “Ensuring that older adults have a reliable source of proper nutrition is important at all times, but even more so now as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the nation.”
