House Members Return to the Hill to Vote on HEROES

Later today the House of Representatives will take its fifth vote on legislation to provide economic relief and stimulus in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. The $3 trillion HEROES Act, H.R. 6800, is expected to pass the chamber on a largely partisan vote, but we expect it will be several weeks at least until the Senate responds.

As detailed in n4a's recent Legislative Update, The HEROES Act would send roughly nearly $1 trillion to state and local governments to fill budget gaps, includes another round of stimulus checks to many individuals, and makes other significant investments in safety-net programs, including $85 million for OAA programs. Unfortunately, specific funding recommendations from n4a and other organizations to alleviate social isolation among older Americans was not included in the HEROES Act, so we will turn our advocacy efforts to the Senate at this point to promote those investments.
