Senate Returns to DC; House Looks to Next Relief Bill

Senators returned to Capitol Hill this week while House lawmakers remained in their Districts. Despite their absence from the chamber, Members of the House are expected to take the lead on the next round of coronavirus relief legislation. n4a is advocating for a number of aging policies in that package—but we need advocates to weigh in, too!

Last month, n4a sent a letter to congressional leaders outlining important legislative priorities to support older adults and caregivers during this health and economic crisis. To add your voice to this critical effort,  use n4a's recently released advocacy tools to connect with your lawmakers about what should be in this next relief package, including ready-to-go social media messages and graphics to amplify your requests.

In the Senate, we expect that appropriators will focus on developing longer-term FY 2021 funding proposals for federal programs including for OAA and other critical aging programs. n4a also sent a letter to Senate and House appropriators this week echoing the need for additional OAA funding and encouraging lawmakers to ensure that current budget caps do not limit funding availability during the COVID-19 crisis. As it now stands, FY 2021 is the final year of the arbitrary 10-year budget caps enacted in the Budget Control Act of 2011.
