Aging and Disability Business Institute Hits the Road

June has been a busy month for the staff of n4a's Aging and Disability Business Institute. Earlier this month, Marisa Scala-Foley and Karol Tapias joined Larry Gross, CEO of Southern Maine Area Agency on Aging, in presenting on the important role of partnerships at the Age-Friendly Health Systems (AFHS) Action Community In-Person Community Meeting in Boston. Age-Friendly Health Systems is an initiative of The John A. Hartford Foundation and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in partnership with the American Hospital Association and the Catholic Health Association of the United States.

The objectives of the meeting were to increase the ability of the participants to adopt the 4Ms (What Matters, Medication, Mentation and Mobility) locally in their health systems; accelerate the adoption of the 4Ms through sharing of supporting practices and tools; and build relationships and find practical support to accelerate their work. AAAs and other CBOs are essential components of Age-Friendly Health Systems. Larry's presentation, given alongside MaineHealth's Tammy Vachon, provided a terrific example of an AFHS-CBO partnership in action!

Not one to let dust gather under her feet, Marisa Scala-Foley traveled to Harrisburg, PA, last week where she presented on national policy initiatives related to integrated care and business acumen to the Pennsylvania Association of Area Agencies on Aging's Leadership Development Institute (LDI). She briefed the LDI class on what is happening with the Medicare Advantage Special Supplemental Benefits for the Chronically Ill, Value-Based Insurance Design, and the new CMS/CMMI Primary Care Initiative, including Direct Contracting.
