Earlier this week the bipartisan working group consisting of leadership and staff from the Senate Aging and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committees, released a slate of amendments it is considering for the reauthorization of the Older Americans Act. The legislative package, Modernization of the Older Americans Act Amendments, includes a number of n4a's key policy positions, including those pertaining to caregiver programs, flexibility, social isolation and innovation and research.
At this point, the legislative package does not include specific authorized funding levels for any programs, as those have yet to be worked out among Senators. n4a is analyzing the package and will provide feedback to the Senate committees by Friday, June 14.
If your Senator reaches out to you, your agency or your providers for feedback on this legislative package, please let us know by sending an email to policy@n4a.org. We can help inform your response by sharing short talking points on key issues. You are instrumental to our advocacy efforts, and it's important that the Aging and HELP Committees hear a clear chorus of responses from the AAA and Title VI networks.
Stay tuned for more from n4a as this develops. In the meantime, check out www.n4a.org/oaa for tools and resources to begin your own advocacy on Older Americans Act reauthorization efforts.
