Policymakers in Washington, DC are taking Older Americans Month seriously. Thanks to both Congress and the Administration, this week has been a busy one for aging advocates—and your n4a policy team has all the details you need to stay in the loop.
In the Senate, n4a member Larry Gross, CEO of the Southern Maine Area Agency on Aging, testified before the Senate Aging Committee on the value of and opportunities for innovation inherent in the Older Americans Act. Larry mentioned the success his agency has seen with its meals and other programs that help enable older adults continue living in the community. Earlier in the week, n4a CEO Sandy Markwood briefed members of the Senate Democratic steering committee on the importance of investing in critical aging programs.
In the House, a funding bill containing significant increases for OAA and other aging programs was passed out of the Appropriations Committee. And the Administration for Community Living's Administrator, Lance Robertson, announced the Trump Administration's priorities for OAA reauthorization, as well as a plan to re-organize some of ACL's DC divisions and all of the regional offices—a move that may have significant implications for AAAs.
Your n4a policy team has been on the forefront of all of these conversations, and we want to hear your take on both the Administration's OAA reauthorization priorities and the re-organization plan. Send feedback to policy@n4a.org and stay tuned for additional analysis from n4a.
