Helping Older Drivers Prepare to Give Up Keys Focus of National Campaign

Research released by the Eldercare Locator this year showed that access to transportation, usually involving an immediate need, is the top reason older adults contact the Locator.

And we expect to see an increase in transportation-related requests for assistance as the number of older non-drivers surges in the U.S. To spread awareness of the transportation options available to older adults in their communities and to help them plan for a non-driving future, this year's Home for the Holidays campaign will focus on this important issue.

The centerpiece of the campaign is a brochure that was developed by n4a in collaboration with ACL, the Federal Transit Administration, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center. The brochure will be available by mid-December and we will share it with you then so be on the look-out!
