This week, the Senate overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan bill pairing funding for the bulk of federal domestic programs, including OAA and other aging programs, with defense funding. The package, which also includes a continuing resolution for the other appropriations bills not yet passed, is expected to be taken up by the House next week.
While President Trump, via social media, initially objected to the amount of border wall funding in the Department of Defense bill, raising shutdown fears based on a potential veto, as of right now we expect that funding will be enacted by the September 30 deadline.
If this occurs, it would be the first time in more than a decade that Congress will finalize FY 2019 discretionary aging program funding by the start of the fiscal year.
n4a's recent Legislative Update includes details about OAA and other aging programs, and we will release advocacy messages for congressional action next week.
