Resources You Can Use to Educate Your Community About Elder Abuse
Learn how you can join aging advocates across the world to educate your community about the variety of resources available to identify, address and prevent elder abuse.
Launched on June 15, 2006 by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) recognizes elder abuse as a global public health and human rights issue. WEAAD not only serves as a call-to-action to raise awareness about how elder abuse impacts the health and well-being of older adults, but to highlight the programs and emerging opportunities led by AAAs and other organizations to combat this pervasive problem.
The resources listed below can help your agency address elder abuse during WEAAD and throughout the year:
- World Elder Abuse Awareness Day Website: Visit the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day website for outreach materials, tips on ways your agency can take action and other useful tools to engage your community.
- Eldercare Locator: The Eldercare Locator's trained staff can connect older adults and concerned caregivers with local organizations and services in their communities to report cases of elder abuse. Call 1.800.677.1116 or visit www.eldercare.acl.gov to connect with one of our skilled information specialists.
- Innovation in the Aging Network - Each year, n4a's Aging Innovations and Achievement (AIA) Awards showcase our members' innovative and successful programs to encourage their replication by other agencies.
