Launched on June 15, 2006 by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) recognizes elder abuse as a global public health and human rights issue. WEAAD not only serves as a call-to-action to raise awareness about how elder abuse impacts the health and well-being of older adults, but to highlight the programs and emerging opportunities led by AAAs and other organizations to combat this pervasive problem.
