Pennsylvania Volunteer Program Showcased at Major Conference

Earlier this week, n4a presented at the Points of Light Foundation's National Volunteer Service Conference, which attracted a Who's Who of leaders, experts and practitioners who believe service is a key strategy to address some of society's greatest needs.

Tom Endres, Director of n4a's Aging Network Volunteer Resource Center (ANVRC), discussed the training and technical assistance the Center provided to the Pennsylvania Department on Aging (PDA) as part of an ACL-funded innovation grant for the State Health Insurance Program.

According to Endres, “The ANVRC's mission is to build the capacity of the Aging Network so it can continue to assume a leadership role in the field of national volunteer service, and we were delighted to share success stories driven by the ground-breaking work being carried out by PDA through its multi-year modernization program and its SHIP Innovation Grant.”

Pennsylvania implemented n4a's innovative self-directed volunteer engagement strategy at five AAA sites and is hoping to expand that success by engaging all of the state's AAAs in the process of recruiting and retaining recent retirees.

“Older Pennsylvanians have much to offer to meet the needs of their less fortunate friends and neighbors and we are excited to serve as a catalyst to enable more of them to serve in every corner of the state, said Troy Dunston, the head of PDA's statewide volunteer program.
