Resources for Those Affected by Hurricane Harvey
With more than 40 inches of rain and severe flooding, Hurricane Harvey has wreaked havoc and devastation on parts of Texas and Louisiana. More than a dozen AAAs and the communities they serve have been affected, and these states will feel the effects for years to come. n4a is working with ACL to determine the best pathways to help and, while waters are still receding, the AAAs will soon be working to support local recovery efforts and assist older adults with their immediate needs, including shelter, food, transportation and financial assistance.
If you or your agency would like to help AAAs in Texas and Louisiana that have been affected by Hurricane Harvey, please consider donating to the n4a Disaster Relief Fund. Since its creation more than 10 years ago, the n4a Disaster Relief Fund has made numerous donations to AAAs dealing with natural disasters and emergencies. All donations will go straight to the AAAs for distribution to meet local needs.
There are two ways to donate:
- Checks: Make all checks payable to n4a, but note “Disaster Relief Fund” in the memo section; Use the mailing address that appears at the end of the newsletter.
- Credit Cards: Visit the n4a donation page and select “Building Our Capacity Fund” at the bottom of the page. Make sure to click “Dedicate the Donation” and select “In Honor Of” and then enter “Disaster Relief Fund.” (Note: Any donations not indicated as such will remain in the n4a Building Our Capacity Fund.)
- Eldercare Locator. The n4a-adminitered Eldercare Locator is serving as a vital conduit between older adults struggling to deal with the aftermath Hurricane Harvey and the services and supports AAAs can offer in their communities.
