Advocacy Needed as Lawmakers Turn to FY 2018 Funding

After passing a final FY 2017 funding bill last week, lawmakers are pivoting to negotiations for FY 2018 appropriations. In the Senate, several letters are circulating among Senators asking for funding increases for OAA and other aging programs.

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is again circulating a
letter asking for a 12 percent increase for OAA, and Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) is also leading efforts on two letters asking colleagues to reject cuts to SHIP and SCSEP.

As n4a's recent Advocacy Alert details, please reach out to your Senators to ask them to sign on to these letters—especially Senator Sanders' letter. Also, n4a has an updated list of Senators who signed on to the Sanders letter last year, but who still haven't signed on this year. The deadline for this letter is Tuesday, May 16.
