In a new Business Institute blog post, officials from the Administration for Community Living (ACL) provide an overview of the integrated care environment, highlighting the opportunities and challenges the changing health care landscape represents for community-based organizations (CBOs) in the aging and disability networks.
As the author notes, NOW is the time for CBOs to dive headfirst into building their business and organizational capacity. Positioning your agency for success in health care partnerships is doable, manageable and just may be critical to sustaining services and diversifying revenue. CBOs of all shapes and sizes across the country are already engaged in this work, spurred by a number of pioneering initiatives from ACL, n4a, The John A. Hartford Foundation, The SCAN Foundation and others.
While not easy, the work these groups are undertaking is paving the way for the future of CBO—health care integration. If approached with boldness, commitment and foresight, partnering with health care can help CBOs better meet their mission of serving older adults, people with disabilities and those who care for them, while boosting margins and building business skills that will take the networks to the next level of sophistication and performance.
