Health Benefits of Volunteering & Aging Prisoners Focus of Fall Publications

In early fall, be on the lookout for two important n4a publications—a consumer brochure that showcases the health benefits of volunteering for older adults and a major report on the challenges and opportunities AAAs face in supporting the needs of America's aging prisoner population.

Using colorful graphics and compelling statistics that your clients will find “reader-friendly,” the brochure will explain how as little as two hours of volunteering a week can reduce depression and chronic pain while also boosting longevity. We will work with media to spread the word about the importance of this issue and also provide you with resources to raise awareness in your communities, using the campaign as a hook.

Many of you completed a brief survey, released this summer, to let us know about in-prison or reentry programs you have undertaken to help meet the needs of aging prisoners in your area. But even if you don't currently run these types of programs, we know that you will be interested in learning how you can support this underserved population, while also identifying a new source of funding.

So stay tuned for more information about these valuable publications!
