Data and technology is a significant, confusing and complex issue facing the Aging Network and its stakeholders. While the Older Americans Act provided the data foundation for agencies, the growth of agencies' work and the various funding sources' reporting requirements have created siloed data systems. This data fragmentation is burdening agencies as their business portfolios grow exponentially along with funder's expectations for rich, data-driven outcomes. Agencies using systems of yesterday that don't effectively meet their baseline needs, inability to integrate data across funding streams to reflect the holistic care picture for clients, agencies losing access to data due to requirements to directly input into secured payer portals, and lack of proper analytics are just a few issues that severely hamper the promise and potential of the network. The network needs sound data solutions to move toward a population health model that drives better health for more people, at lower cost, one person at a time. Information Technology: Can't Live With It, Can't Live Without It

Technology is essential as we all strive to respond to the needs of 21st century older adults, people with disabilities and caregivers. It offers the ability to expand marketing and outreach, streamline access and reach more consumers. Technology is also the key to managing programs, measuring impact and integrating effectively with different parts of the healthcare system. Finding the right technology to meet the growing and diverse needs of AAAs as they respond to the rapidly changing environment is not easy. This highly interactive session will share results from 2015 IT survey and feature examples from AAAs and other CBOs on how they procured their IT systems, what information/data they're collecting and how they are using that data for QI. This workshop will stimulate a collective discussion on technology that produces the greatest value for aging service providers and uncover gaps in the marketplace that are essential to meeting the goals and objectives of a modern AAA. Shared development design and costs for AAAs seeking similar undeveloped products and solutions is a possible outcome.
