A new article in the American Society on Aging's (ASA) latest Aging Today newsletter provides key recommendations for CBOs seeking to partner with the health care sector to improve care delivery and lower costs.
The article is a product of n4a's new Business Center; ASA is a partner in those efforts.
“A Matter of Mindset: CBOs Must Master Outside-In Thinking to Partner Up and Deliver Quality, Cost Efficient Care” by Victor Tabbush, Ph.D., Emeritus Professor at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, examines the “inside-out” organizational structure that exemplifies many CBOs and shows how this mindset undermines thier potential to capitalize on the new business opportunities that innovative payment and policy reforms have made possible.
Tabbush instead advocates for an “outside-in” orientation, in which CBOs focus on speaking the operational and business-oriented language of their health care partners, creating objective, economic value for the partner organizations, promoting outcomes over processes, developing an authentic brand and pricing services to reflect their bottom line value to partners.
