Advocacy Urgently Needed to Stop Senate Elimination of SHIPs

As our June 13 Legislative Update and June 21 Advocacy Alert detailed, the Senate Appropriations Committee's FY 2017 spending measure would eliminate all $52.1 million currently going to State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIPs).

Please help us stop this terrible decision in its tracks by informing Congress of the SHIPs' value to Medicare consumers!

Our call to action alert, which was done in partnership with the Medicare Rights Center, contains consumer-friendly language and ease of use—advocates simply need to input their zip code and customize the built-in email text to their SHIP knowledge or experiences and it will be transmitted to their Senators and Representatives.

In all n4a Alerts we urge our members and allies to reach out to their local networks and engage a broad array of stakeholders, but it's especially important with this advocacy battle! To turn around a cut this large, it will require widespread outrage from many corners, so please spread the word and encourage your local partners, vendors, advisory board members and consumers to take action.

Also check out n4a's social media on this topic to help spread the word locally—you can easily repost/retweet our Facebook and Twitter content and adapt for your local audiences.

If you have additional questions about the SHIP situation, contact n4a's Director, Public Policy and Advocacy, Autumn Campbell.
