This week, the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center held a celebration and briefing, bringing together colleagues, friends and top leadership from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the Administration for Community Living (ACL).
n4a's CEO Sandy Markwood opened the event by thanking attendees for raising the bar on the issues of transportation and mobility needs for older adults and people with disabilities. Remarks were also made by both Bruce Robinson, Acting Associate Administrator, Program Management at FTA and John Wren, Deputy Administrator, Center for Integrated Programs, ACL, who reflected on the importance of technical assistance and resources for communities across the country to improve accessible transportation options.
Participants also heard from a local organization, Central Maryland Regional Transit (CMRT), whose overall mobility management services have served nearly 1.2 million people over the course of the last 5 years. CMRT's connection with NADTC has enabled their staff to better serve clients like DeMario Green, a Maryland transit rider, who shared his personal story about how access to various transportation options helped him maintain his quality of life after a serious accident.
