USAging worked closely with the 118th Congress last year to develop the OAA Reauthorization Act of 2024, which contained some of our top priorities, such as contracting flexibility for AAAs. However, despite both passing the Senate and being included in the House's original bipartisan end-of-year package in December, the bill was unfortunately dropped at the last minute and did not pass.
The bill was not left out of the 2024 year-end spending package because of anything controversial or polarizing; instead, it fell victim to political disagreements among Republicans that were fueled by businessman and informal Trump advisor Elon Musk's attacks on the size and scope of the year-end package. This left little time to pass it in the House individually, and the bill was unable to pass before the end of the 118th Congress. Now, with a new Congress in session, USAging will be working hard to revive the bill and ensure it passes into law as soon as possible.?We will provide more information soon about how you can take action on this important issue!
Additionally, the year-end spending bill temporarily authorized and funded the MIPPA Medicare Low-Income Outreach and Enrollment program through March 2025. The program was initially set to receive a two-year authorization and $100 million in funding in the bipartisan bill but was scaled back because of the overall drama in the House. USAging will be working to secure more funding and a longer authorization for the program.
