That’s a Wrap on n4a’s First-Ever Virtual Aging Policy and Advocacy Summit

This week, n4a's first-ever Aging Policy and Advocacy Summit brought Washington, DC to 400 virtual attendees. Through three jam-packed days, attendees learned about the latest developments in aging and health policy and how they can effectively advocate for the Aging Network's top priorities.

Day one opened with the basics. n4a CEO Sandy Markwood and our policy team provided a crash course on why advocacy and policy should matter to AAAs and gave a breakdown of effective advocacy strategies. New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham joined the summit to share how her experiences with aging issues has shaped her perspective and commitment as an aging advocate and left attendees with a compelling call to action for the Aging Network.

Day two explored the new normal for the Aging Network and policy directions under a new Congress and Administration. The day's discussions were highlighted by Representative Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR) and Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) who joined the summit to share with attendees which aging and health policy issues they were focusing on this year. Administration for Community Living Acting Administrator and Assistant Secretary on Aging Alison Barkoff was joined by two special guests from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the White House COVID-19 Response Team, providing insight from the Aging Network's key federal partners.

On day three, n4a's Aging and Disability Business Institute wrapped things up with a three-part intensive about Medicare opportunities for AAAs. The sessions featured a lineup of Aging Network leaders and innovators and provided attendees with a deep dive into existing opportunities for AAAs under Medicare Advantage and Medicare Fee-For-Service as well as insight into the future of social determinants of health codes and how they might impact your AAA's health care contracting work.

Throughout the summit, attendees enjoyed access to a dozen of specialized sessions on aging policy and advocacy that featured exclusive speakers from key federal agencies, Congress, the White House, leading aging organizations, AAAs and more. Did you miss a session or were you unable to attend the Aging Policy and Advocacy Summit live this year, we have good news! You can still access all summit content through June 25 by registering at  n4a.org/agingpolicysummit. And plan ahead to attend next year's policy event, March 29-30, 2022.
