Three New Tools Can Help Renters Find Emergency Assistance
On August 3, the CDC issued a
new eviction moratorium through October 3 in counties with higher levels of COVID-19 community transmission. This rapidly changing situation means many older renters and caregivers may not be up to date on available assistance and legal protections. AAAs should proactively inform older adults that emergency assistance is available and urge quick action to avoid evictions. Three new online tools can help renters who are behind on payments or facing eviction get assistance to stay in their homes.

Help Spread the Word and Dispel Fear: Immigration Status Impacts
Repealed by the Biden Administration earlier this year, the 2019 “Public Charge” Rule created a chasm in leveraging essential public service programs, creating a punitive threat to those accessing such services by denying individuals seeking to obtain or renew legal permanent residency. While not directly impacting the Older Americans Act (OAA), the repealed rule did consider an individual's age, health and disability status in the public charge risk assessment process.
